He was predeceased by his wife,the former Margaret Bowen, in February of this year. Also predeceased by four daughters. He is survived by five daughters: Mrs. Christine Lindsay, of Sault Ste. "Obituaries; Ralph Ames, Sr; Ill for only twelve days Mr. Ralph Ames, Sr., passed away at his home 42 Carlisle Ave., Bownamville, on March 2nd, in his 82nd year. Many of his wide circle of friends were unaware of his illness and were indeed saddened to learn of his passing. Born in Brighton Township, Northumberland County, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stepehen Ames, he was educated at Mt. Olivet and in his early years became an expeirenced carpenter and builder. Later he became a successful salesman with the Pedlar People, Oshawa, for a period of 15 years. For the past severn years he has lived in retirement but has taken an active interest in community affairs. Married on Feb. 6, 1889, to Miss Ida Valleau, they lived at Codrington, Ont., before coming to Bowmanville 22 years ago. Mrs. Ames passed away on April 7, 1946, and her loss was keenly felt by the community and her husband who survived her just short of a year. The late Mr. Ames was on of those kindly, solid citizens whose influence contributed much to this community. A member of Trintiy United Church and the Loyal Orange Lodge, he seldom sought office, perferring in his quiet way to render service. he was everywhere greatly respected. There remain to mourn the father on daughter, Mrs. Marie Widdis, Toronto, one son, Jesse S. Ames, and two grandchildren, Ralph Ames Jr., Bowmanville and Jack Widdis, Toronto. The funeral was held from the family residence March 4, with Rev. J. E. Griffith officiating in the services. Interment took place at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Brighton Township, with Rev. Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Anderson, the former Illadel N. Anderson was born at Wellman's Corners and in 1917 married Mr. Jesse S. Ames who survives. Mrs. Ames had resided in Bowmanville for 47 years and was a member of Trinity United Church. She was also a member of the United Church Women of Trinity Church, and her interests centred around her home and family. Surviving, besides husband Jesse, are a son, Ralph W. Ames, Bowmanville; a brother, Fred Anderson of Moose Jaw, Sask; and a granddaughter, Jill. The funeral service was held from the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, Bowmanville, on Thursday, May 28th, and was conducted by Rev. G. K. Ward of Trinity United Church. Interment was in Bowmanville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Messrs. Sam Black, Jack Brough, George Fisher, Don Gilhooly, Lou McFeeters and George White.
