She died on 14 February 1963 at Kirkland District Hospital, Kirkland Lake, Timiskaming District, Ontario, at age 72; "The death occurred in Kirkland District Hospital on Thursday, February 14, of Mrs. Maggie Ames, in her 71st year, after a lengthy illness. Born in the town of Hartsmere in the county of Hastings, she came north to New Liskeard at the age of six years with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bowen. In the year 1909 she married Frank Ames and resided in Cobalt for a short period of time, later moving to Hudson Township where they remained until 1940 when they moved to Matachewan. She is survived by her husband Frank of Matachewan; five daughters and four sons, Mrs. Christine Lindsay of Sault Ste. Marie; Ellen, Mrs. Norman Townsend of Wellington, B. C; Beulah, Mrs. Ed Briscoe of Englehart; Belva, Mrs. Stan Evans of Swastika; Della, Mrs. Don Plaunt of King Kirkland; Ezra Ames of Gowanda; Frank and Boyd of Matachewan; and Donald of Temagami. She was predeceased by four daughters, Frances in infancy, Marjorie, Audrey and May during the last nine years. Della Bennett of Orillia; Maud, Mrs. Pat Laffrevere in Alberta; Mrs. Dorothy Bowers and Lola, Mrs. Garfield Scott, both of New Liskeard; Bessie, Mrs. Harry Hammond, Merton and Lockie Bowen, all of Hudson township and Frank of Lost Lake. There are 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. The body rested at Sommerset Funeral Home until Saturday when taken to Kingdom Hall at New Liskeard where services were conducted by Mr. Anyan. Audrey Lilian Ames died on 27 November 1959 at Underwood Corner, Cobalt, Temiskaming District, Ontario, at age 46; "Two Are Killed In Car Crash At Underwoods; Underwood's Corner, three miles south of Cobalt, racked up a new and bloody record last Friday and Saturday. In 24+ hours a man and his wife were killed, another man was hospitalized, and three cars were seriously damaged, one a total wreck. In the first accident. Mike Donner of Elliot Lake was taken to hospital at Haileybury with serious head and internal injuries. He was a passenger in a car driven by Robert L. Traynor of Elliot Lake. The car went out of control and rolled over just north of the curve which lies between two hills.
Four hours later Friday night, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil J. Eades of Brock, near Sunderland, died instantly from multiple injuries after their car smashed head-on into a south bound transport, driven by Fernand Nadon of Timmins. Nadon said that he saw the car coming towards him at a high rate of speed after it had passed another transport. It went out of control and smashed into the front of his vehicle. Mr. Eades, 45, and his wife, 47, were thrown out of their car. The engine of their1948S model vehicle was torn from its mountings and hurled more than 50 feet away. At exactly the same spot Saturday night, a north bound car knocked out a guard rail and suffered about $1,200 damages after going out of control. It was driven by Joseph Vouriot of Spragge, Ont. and had as passengers Andy Fleury and Andy St. Jean, also of Spragge. Total damage to the three cars and the transport may touch $10,000. The accidents were investigated by OPP Constables G. Moody and J. Ford, assisted by Corporal S. New Liskeard Speaker Birth Announcement: April 1916, at Sutton Bay, Mr. & Mrs. F. Ames, a daughter (14 Apr 1916, from Bruce Taylor) Date 1916 & location Ont. per 1921 Census. Note: Harris Twp. is at the top of the east head of Lake Timiskaming, just a short distance east of Hudson Twp. where the Ames family lived after 1920.¹ She "Harris-Sutton United Church - The Harris-Sutton church was built in 1931 on Mr. Stanley Logan's farm in Sutton Bay. IN March 1957 it was moved to its present site at Ball Corners in Harris Township. But a place of worship had been provided in that area by pioneers of Sutton Bay in the winter of 1906-1907. A Methodist missionary held services in the log schoolhouse which was in Sutton Bay. IN 1909, a Presbyterian student, Rev. Freeman, conducted services in the post office. The next year a Presbyterian church was built on George Delury's farm, on top of the hill. This church was burnt in 1916. After the fire, services were held by the Rev. Farmer of Hanbury, in various homes, and in Dale school, and finally in Harris Orange Hall.
