The running horses are clearly visible on the sliding barn doors, a distinctive feature of this barn, even in the 1970's.

There is also a picture of the main barn taken from the same spot looking north. Cows are in front drinking from the large cement water trough, the litter-carrier track is seen at the east side of the barn and the slanted roof and silo are clearly seen on the west side of the barn.

Boaz died in 1823 and there is no mention of a 16-year-old son, James, in his Will. This notion seems to have been accepted in the Ames family. Vern Ames, older brother of Lloyd Ames and a teacher, visited the Pioneer Cemetery at Upper Canada Village soon after it was established in the 1950's; he likely saw Boaz Ames' grave stone there. in 1808. Note: At McPhail's Decoration Day, June 25, 2001, the Cemetery Commission highlighted the James & May Ames grave stone during the ceremony as the first of the old stones to be repaired. They picked this stone because it was in a prominent position, clearly visible to anyone entering the cemetery and because it was in fairly good condition, ensuring a good result. The broken top part had been fastened to the larger section and the base had been straightened. It had been cleaned a bit but more work is to be done to clean it thoroughly and mend the crack with proper colored cement. David Down and some others have taken courses at Campbell's Monuments in Belleville and are slowly learning how to do this work themselves. Bill Goodfellow mentions in his comments in Ames Lineage that Elisha Ames moved to Wilberforce. He lived on 1 September 1882 at Dudley Twp., Wilberforce, Haliburton Co., Ontario; Son's birth info shows that the family is in Wilberforce in September 1882. He was Farmer per 1891 Census. Lloyd Ames told that Elisha Ames went to Wilberforce to either run a saw mill or work in one. Dan Buchanan recalls a family trip when he was a youngster that went to several small villages just south of Algonguin Park where relatives were supposed to have lived. The large Roblin Saw Mill is thought to be the one that Lloyd Ames mentioned. in 1883 at Dudely Twp., Wilberforce, Haliburton Co., Ontario. He Daughter Mida marries John McCullough who is was born in Drumond Twp, Lannark Co. just south of Wilberforce in Renfrew Co.. This shows that Elisha & family was here well before 1885. on 13 July 1885 at Dudley Twp, Wilberforce, Peterborough E./Haliburton, Ontario. "John Ames Passes; Taught Fifty Years; Veteran Took First School in 1868. Worked Until Recently; For more than 50 years a teacher in the public schools of various parts of Ontario, John Ames died yesterday at his home, 46 Olive Ave., after a brief illness. He was 82 years of age. Mr. Ames, of Irish ancestry, was born on Waupoos Island, Bay of Quinte on February 2, 1849. He began his teaching career in Brighton Township in 1868, and his last school was at Matheson, Northern Ontario. The late Mr. Ames, who was superanuated about eight years ago when he returned to Toronto, was a member of Bathurst St. United Church and in May of last year celebrated his diamond wedding anniversary with his wife and family. In 1870 Mr. Ames married Martha Jane Franklin of Brighton, Ontario, who survives with one son, Carman W. Ames, Toronto; one daughter, Miss Grace E. Prospect Cemetery is just west of Dufferin St. and north of St. Clair in Toronto. The Ames memorial is in the part of the cemetery north of Rogers Rd., just south of the Garden Mausoleum, Section 22, #1274, towards the west end of the main area of stones. (Seen by Dan Buchanan, Oct 29, 2000.)¹⁶

In the course of the forenoon, the Sheriff, Dr. King’s father and sister came into see him, stayed quite a while, talking with the Dr; after bidding him farewell and leaving us, Dr. wept profusely for a good while; Dr. spoke about his latter end very composedly and confidently, after his friends leaving Mr. Vanderburg came in to see us, conversed religiously with us a while and joined very earnestly with us in prayer before leaving; after being locked up in cell Dr. said, ‘I’ll have a weeping night of it to night. Note: I am assuming that the sister that came to visit Dr. King with her father was the oldest sister, Mary Louisa. on 30 May 1859 at Common Jail, Cobourg, Northumberland Co., Canada West. She immigrated after March 1878 to Macomb co., Michigan, U.S.A; Family moved to Michigan.
