"Late Lt. Col. Russell - In the death on Thursday, FEbruary 13th, 1930, of Lt. Col. W. H. Russell, postmaster of the Village for the past 23 years, Brighton laid to rest another of her prominent sons, one who will be sadly missed by a large circle of friends and mourned by his family and relatives. William Henry Russell first saw the light of day 64 years, 3 months and 3 days ago on the farm of his parents Jane Littel and P. C. Russell in Brighton Township. His early years were spent on the homestead with his parents and as he grew to boyhood he attended school at Hilton and later Brighton. In early life he was united in marriage to Ada L. Ames and seven children blessed their union, two died in incancy and five are still living. They are Mr. H. L. Russell and Mrs. Lloyd Herrington, Brighton Twp., Mrs. R. B. Scripture, Ottawa; Mrs. J. A. Hennessy and Mrs. H. A. Bullock, Brighton. Mrs. Russell predeceased him some years ago. The late Lt. Col Russell had always taken a keen interest in military affairs and for 46 years had been identified with the old 40th Northumberland Regiment, rising from the rank of Lieutenant to Commanding Officer. He was also second in command of the 139th Battalion, C. E. F., during the war period. Fraternally, he was a member of United Lodge No. 29 A.F. and A.M. and also the I.O.O.F. Order. In politics he was a lifelong liberal and in religion a member of the United Church. "Late Lt. Col. Russell - In the death on Thursday, FEbruary 13th, 1930, of Lt. Col. W. H. Russell, postmaster of the Village for the past 23 years, Brighton laid to rest another of her prominent sons, one who will be sadly missed by a large circle of friends and mourned by his family and relatives. William Henry Russell first saw the light of day 64 years, 3 months and 3 days ago on the farm of his parents Jane Littel and P. C. Russell in Brighton Township. His early years were spent on the homestead with his parents and as he grew to boyhood he attended school at Hilton and later Brighton. In early life he was united in marriage to Ada L. Ames and seven children blessed their union, two died in incancy and five are still living. They are Mr. H. L. Russell and Mrs. Lloyd Herrington, Brighton Twp., Mrs. R. B. Scripture, Ottawa; Mrs. J. A. Hennessy and Mrs. H. A. Bullock, Brighton. Mrs. Russell predeceased him some years ago. The late Lt. Col Russell had always taken a keen interest in military affairs and for 46 years had been identified with the old 40th Northumberland Regiment, rising from the rank of Lieutenant to Commanding Officer. He was also second in command of the 139th Battalion, C. E. F., during the war period. Fraternally, he was a member of United Lodge No. 29 A.F. and A.M. and also the I.O.O.F. Order. In politics he was a lifelong liberal and in religion a member of the United Church. Campbell, ?unreserved?, Maria L. ?Buckley?, ?Daniel McTavish, widower, Mary E. L. McTavish, spinster sold 100 acres of lot 13, conc 1, Cramahe Twp. to Herman Reynolds for $2,300. ITS Date: Nov 2 1908. Reg'n. Date: Nov 18 1908.
