Date Nov 1843 & location Ont. per 1911 Census. Date Nov 20 1843 & location Ont. rural per 1901 Census. Date 1848 & location Ont. per 1891 Census. Date 1845 & location Brighton Twp. per marr. reg'n. - Ida Chatterson. Date 1842 per "The George Chatterson Family", copied from original provided by Florence Chatten, June 4, 2005. Date 1843 per 1881 Census.3,1,4,2,5,6,7 He appeared on the census of March 1852 at Brighton Twp., Northumberland Co., Canada West; Age 10 at 1851 Census: see Edmund Thorne.8 He On April 21, 1852, several days of heavy rain along with spring snowmelt caused a gravel bank to give way on the small lake north-west of Hilton. The water cascaded down the narrrow valley, following the creek to the north-east, all the way to Cole Creek and eventually the Trent River. Lewis Shearer's saw mill in the valley north of Hilton was destroyed, killing Mr. Shearer and a helper, Jacob Herrington. This event is known in local parlance as "The Breakaway". The Stephens brothers, Alva and Daniel, had recently obtained parts of the south half of lot 5 from their father Richard, so, all of a sudden, their lake was gone. They sold to John Philp soon after. Next east on the creek was Edmund Thorne who had brought his family to Conc 5, Lot 2 only a couple of years before. (Dan Buchanan, July 14 2021) on 21 April 1852 at The Breakaway, Hilton, Northumberland Co., Canada West. He appeared on the census of April 1861 at Brighton Twp., Northumberland Co., Canada West; Age 19 at 1861 Census: see Edmund Thorne.9 He lived on 3 February 1870 at Brighton Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; Witness at marriage of sister Eliza Thorne & Geo. Brighton; Date: Sep 20 1871; Place: Brighton; Rel.: Meth. Episc. & Wesleyan Meth; Peformed by: P. E. Knox, by license, Brighton Village (Ontario Marriage Registration, ancestry.ca)
Note: It appears as if the marriage took place in Sep 1870, not 1871 as the record says. They are married per April 1871 Censua and then she died Aug 1871.10,5 Thomas Ichabod Thorne appeared on the census of April 1871 at Brighton Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; Age 28 at 1871 Census: Thorne, Thos. Note: Thomas I. Thorne does not appear in the index for the 1871 Census, likely due to the poor form of the name. He is on the page after Chester Loomis - pg. 17.
Note: Thomas and Emma are already married per April 1871 Census. So, date on marriage record must be wrong - should be 1870??
