Note: We need to be careful to keep these people straight. This William J. Swetman is a son of William Jerome Swetman who died in 1866 while acting as Lighthouse Keeper at the Point Pelee Lighthouse. The son took over when his father died but then, by the 1871 Census, we see him taking over at Presqu'ile - when is grandfather, William Swetman, died. However, he does not stay long, moving to Rochester in 1873, and George Benedict Simpson, who married a daughter of William Swetman, took over the job. in 1872 at Presqu'ile Point Lighthouse, Brighton Twp., Presqu'ile Point, Northumberland Co., Ontario. One sister, Mrs. T. I. Thorne, and his brother Richard died several years ago. The remaining sisters are Mrs. Carter, who kept house for him, Mrs. Sweetman of Waterloo, N.Y., Mrs. Marsh of Cayuga, N.Y. and Mrs. Wilson of Hebo, Ore. Mrs. Sweetman and Mrs. Marsh, who are both around eighty years of age, attended the funderal, being motored here by Mrs. Marsh's daughter, Mrs. Geo. Taverner, and her son Mr. Esli Marsh.
