Homer Whiting Loomis was born on 27 June 1817 at Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; Date Jun 27 1817 & location Codrington, Northumberland, Ontario per IGI Record. Per IGI Record.1,2 He immigrated in 1837 to U.S.A; "I think Homer W. Loomis is missing from the local lore because he left the area and entered the U.S. in 1837 (according to a statement he made on his Intention to Become a U.S. Citizen form in 1860.)" per email by C. Loomis, Jan 8, 2009.
... and also ... "If that 1837 date is correct, and he did leave Canada for the U.S. it’s a mystery about where he went and what he did. It’s interesting that he sold his portion of the land in Canada in 1850 – was he actually present or did he give power of attorney to someone for the sale? I can’t find him anywhere in the U.S. after 1837 until he shows up on the 1850 U.S. Census in California as a gold miner. He left quite a paper trail after 1850, and was very social and involved in the community, so I find it hard to believe there would be nothing written about him during those missing 13 years. According to family stories Homer would not talk, even to his family, about his days in Canada, and his obituary only said that after a moderately successful career in the east, he decided to take up gold mining in California. I wonder if the 1837 Rebellion had something to do with his leaving Canada and/or his silence?"3 He lived on 25 November 1847 at Conc 7 Lot 34, Murray Twp., Northumberland Co., Canada West; Land Registry Records (B&S A 64 - Murray) show that Levi Loomis and Chester Loomis Sr. sold all 200 acres of Lot 34, Conc 7, Murray (later Brighton) Twp. to H. W. Loomis and Chester Loomis, Jr.4 He lived on 21 March 1850 at Conc 7 Lot 34, Murray Twp., Northumberland Co., Canada West; Land Registry Records (Grant A-264) show that Homer H.
