Note: For those curious few, Brighton Township was created Jan 1 1952 from the west side of Murray Township and the east side of Cramahe Township, literally creating three townships out of two. The Thornes lived near the village of Hilton, which was mostly on the west side of the border between Cramahe and Murray. I try to be accurate in recording details, so I will use Cramahe of Murray until Brighton was created. Sorry for the confusion. "DEATH CLAIMS MRS. EVERETT, EARLY PIONEER; Former Resident of Redland Is To Be Buried in Gate City; Her Career Recalled; Mrs. Elizabeth A. Everett, former Redlands resident and a San Bernardino county pioneer, died Friday in her home at Huntington Park. She is survived by a son, Albert E. Judd of Redlands, and two other children. Funeral services for Mrs. Everett, who was 84 years old, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the F. Arthur Corner chapel of Redlands. Interment will be at Mountain View cemetery in San Bernardino.
Knew California in Gold Rush Days
Mrs. Everett, who had been in ill health for sevreal weeks, was born in Canada. She was closely identified with the early history of California. When only 20 years old, she made the journey from Canada to California. She travelled along by boat, packing across the Isthmus of Panama. After a long and arduous trip, she reached the early California settlement of Gold Run in 1867. There she met and married William Judd, whose brother was one of the original "Forty-niners."
Helped to Pioneer Mountain Area
To this union were born four children, three of whom are well known in Southern California. They are Albert E. Judd of Redlands, Fred W. Judd and Sadie Judd Speck, both of Huntinton Park.
Mr. Judd, known familiarly as Uncle Billy, owned and operated extensive gold mining interests in Gold Run. The family lived there for several years.
A few years prior to the incorporation of the "village" of San Bernardino, the Judd family came south and Mr. Judd became indentified with the Tyler Brothers Lumber Co. and sawmill in Grass Valley. The family made its home at the site now occupied by Arrowhead Lake.
Watched Orange Industry Grow
Mr. Judd died in 1892 and Mrs. Judd later was married to Frances J. Everett. They came to Redlands while the orange industry was still in its infancy. They invested in orange land and maintained a home on Olive Avenue for many years. Mr. Everett was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1915. Later Mrs. Everett sold the family home and removed to Huntington Park where she spent the last six years.
Mr. Everett was known as a woman possessed of remarkable courage and fortitude and was respected highly by many friends." from FindaGrave, added by Chloe (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/137355563/elizabeth-a-everett)
