Note: David Loughheed was originally buried in the Hilton cemetery. Charles Buchanan thought that he died in the winter of early 1888 and was buried at Hilton because the family could not get to Carrying Place to bury him with his father. He was dug up in the spring of 1888 and intered with his father at Carrying Place.1,5,6
He was buried on 19 September 1886 at Brighton Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; The child David Lougheed Buchanan was buried originally near their home east of Hilton but, after his father, John, died a year later, his mother Elizabeth wanted the child to be buried with the father in the Carrying Place Cemetery. As a result, the child's body was removed to the Carrying Place Cemetery. per Charles Buchanan

Note: Infant son David L. Buchanan was buried first near the family home in Brighton Twp., then, after John died Nov 29 1887, he was moved from there to be buried with his father in Carrying Place. This was probably done the next spring since Charles Buchanan recalls his father saying that it was very wet and the move was very unpleasant. (Per Charles Buchanan.)5

Robert Buchanan1

| Mother | ? ? b. b 1791 |
Note: St. Paul's Anglican Church in Brighton was destroyed by fire in 1914 which may have destroyed the record of Robert and Anne's marriage. They were Church of England.
"St. Paul's Anglican Church, 48 Sanford Street: St. Paul's Anglican Church was established in 1862 but traces of the Anglican Community date back to 1836. ... Prior to the erection of St. Paul's, services were held in the Old Presbyterian Church on Young Street. Following a fire in 1914, which destroyed early records of the church, electricity was installed and a Choir Vestry was added." (from "A History of Brighton - Churches" on the web page of The Independent, East Northumberland's Weekly Newspaper.)4,1 Robert Buchanan lived in 1847 at Ameliasburg Twp., Prince Edward, Canada West; After the birth of their first child, John, in Brighton, Robert moved to Ameliasburg Township where all the rest of their children were born. He appeared on the census of 1851 at Ameliasburg Twp, Prince Edward Co., Canada West; Age 35 at 1851 Census: Buchanan, Robert, 35, b. Ireland, Irish, CE, Mason, married; John, 5, b. Cda; Thomas Henry, 3; James, 1; Ann, 30, b. Cda., CE, married; Mary, 25, b. Canada, CE, single (1851 Census: Ameliasburgh Twp., Prince Edward Co., pg. 3 of 94, line 4 - ancestry.ca) Note: The family is living in a 1 storey frame house.
Note: Both Ann and Mary are shown born in Canada. This would appear to be a mistake, at least as far as Ann is concerned since later census records confirm she was born in Ireland. We can be less certain about Mary although, if she is a sister of Robert, she would have been born in Ireland too.5 He lived in 1852 at Conc 2, Ameliasburg Twp., Prince Edward Co., Canada West; Robert Buchanan is not included in the Agricultural Census part of the 1851-2 Census for Ameliasburg, probably because he did not own any land. However, we can locate him in an area based on the position of his record in the 1851-2 Personal Census. He is on page 2 of Part 1 (Part 2 is missing) on the 4th line. Just above him is a large family of Hunt's - George and Harvey are the men shown as heads of families. Harvey Hunt is shown in the Agricultural Census on Conc 2, Lot 104. Just above the Hunt's is Charles Chase who is shown at Conc 2, Lot 105. Right after Robert Buchanan we see Robert Jackson, who is at Conc 3, Lot 89 and then J. A. Bonter, who is at Conc 2, Lot 111 and 112. This does not pinpoint Robert Buchanan on a specific lot but shows us that he was in the area south of Carrying Place and likely near or to the east of the Chase homestead which is occupied today by a Chase descendant. We can recognise this area by driving south on Hwy 33 from Carrying Place and noticing the large farm of communications towers on the east side of the road. If you go east down the sideroad to the just north of there, you will be in the area where Robert Buchanan lived in 1852, likely renting a house from one of the men mentioned above. We can confirm the locations of these other men in the County Atlas Map for Ameliasuburg Township which shows who lived there in 1878.6,7 He Mary Buchanan, 25, is living with Robert Buchanan in Ameliasburg Twp. in 1852. She was born in Canada and is single. in 1852 at Ameliasburg Twp, Prince Edward Co., Canada West.6 He was Occupation: Mason per 1851-2 Census in 1852 at Ameliasburg Twp, Prince Edward Co., Canada West.6 He 1857 Directory of Ontario shows Robert Buchanan in Consecon, Prince Edward County, a stone mason and plasterer in 1857 at Ameliasburgh Twp., Consecon, Prince Edward Co., Canada West. While in New York, they heard Jenny Lind sing." per Jean Anderson's papers.

A relative in New York State left a sum of money to the late Wm. Stuart and it seemed necessary that Mrs. Stuart go there to get the legacy. Another well-to-do relative who lived there adked her to move there with her family and he would do everything possible to help them. She refused because she wished to be buried beside her husband. Heart, rather than head seems to have ruled their lives, as that wealthy relative in New York City had made them the same offer in their arrival in America but it was refused because they could only live under the British flag. Mrs. Stuart made that trip to New York State in the year Abraham Lincoln was shot. Then she gave up the farm and moved to Carrying Place where she had a little store.
