The store burned in 1911." from 7th Town/Ameliasburgh Township; Past and Present - pg 73

He lived alone after his mother died until he married Arwilda MacDougall and moved to Picton. John Hendricks had a strip of land next. He used to grow beans for the factory. I have picked for him. Then east to the Anglican Church." from Gunshots & Gleanings of Historic Carrying Place - pg. 42 circa 1900 at Murray Twp., Carrying Place, Northumberland Co., Ontario. He appeared on the census of April 1901 at Murray Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; Age 28 at 1901 Census: Buchanan, John, 28, Jan 1 1873, farmer; Jane, 59, b. May 15 1842, mother.12 He "Carrying Place: W. J. Buchanan and sister were the guests of their Aunt, Mrs. Hayes and cousin Jno Buchanan last week." from The Brighton Ensign, Jan 12, 1924, see at The Ontario Archives, Jan 3, 2001
Analysis: W. J. Buchanan must mean William Busby Buchanan, who has a sister and is the only W. Buchanan alive in this group in 1912. Their Aunt would be the sister of their mother (Elizabeth Stuart), Mary Ann Stuart who was the wife of Henry Hayes and lived in Carrying Place. John Buchanan would be John E. Buchanan, son of Thomas Buchanan, who lived in Carry Place as well. This confirms from another source (besides Bernice and Charles Buchanan) that Thomas Buchanan and Robert Buchanan likely were brothers - although it does not say whether William Busby Buchanan was FIRST cousin to John Buchanan or not. on 12 January 1912 at Murray Twp., Carrying Place, Northumberland Co., Ontario.13 He lived on 4 February 1918 at Lot 6 Conc C, Murray Twp., Carrying Place, Northumberland Co., Ontario; Land Registry Records show that John Buchanan sold a small part of his land to the Hydro Electric Power Commission for $10.00.14 He "A few friends surprised Mr. John Buchanan last week and a good time was spent till the "wee sma' hours" when they left, promising this would not be the last time." from The Brighton Ensign, March 22, 1918, seen on microfilm at The Ontario Archives, Feb 7, 2001 on 22 March 1918 at Murray Twp., Carrying Place, Northumberland Co., Ontario.13 He "Sale Register: Nov. 30, Estate of late Wm. McDougall, Carrying Place, horses, cows, heifers, pigs, implements, vehicles, etc." from The Brighton Ensign, Nov 15, 1918, seen at The Ontario Archives, Feb. 7, 2001 on 15 November 1918 at Murray Twp., Carrying Place, Northumberland Co., Ontario.13 He lived on 7 April 1920 at Carrying Place, Prince Edward Co., Ontario; Residence Carrying Place per marriage reg'n.1 He married Arwilda Brown, daughter of John Harvey Brown and Sarah Adaline Kemp, on 7 April 1920 at Belleville, Hastings Co., Ontario; Marriage Reg'n.: Groom: John Edgworth Buchanan; Age: 48; Res. & Born: Carrying Place; Occ.: farmer; Status: bachelor; Rel.: Anglican; Parents: Thomas Buchanan & Jane Rutledge; Will Reside: Belleville; Bride: Arwilda McDougall; Age: 36; Status: widow; Rel.: Meth; Res. & Born: Carrying Place; Parents: John Harvey Brown & Adeline Kemp; Witnesses: Mary J. Arwilda was a widow living across the road. William McDougall died suddenly of fever and John was there to help with the farm and family. He was unmarried.15 John Edgworth Buchanan appeared on the census of 18 June 1921 at Ameliasburgh Twp., Carrying Place, Prince Edward Co., Ontario; Age 50? at 1921 Census: Buchana, John, 56, b. Ont., son (1921 Census: Ameliasburgh Twp., Prince Edward Co., dist. 122, sub-dist. 2, pg. 17, line 45 - Carrying Place - ancestry.ca.)7 He "There were always lots of heated debates and fireworks - like the time John Buchanan was chairman and claimed Harry McCruder's barn was on school property" from Gunshots & Gleanings of Historic Carrying Place - pg. 46 circa 1930 at Murray Twp., Carrying Place, Northumberland Co., Ontario. He Bernice Brown and Charles Buchanan recall going with their parents to Carrying Place to visit "Johnny". They recall the farm beside the Anglican Church as well as Johnny Jr. who was close to their age and a willing playmate. It was understood that the Buchanan's in Carrying Place were cousins but it is not clear exaclty how - probably because Robert Buchanan and Thomas Buchanan were brothers. (Dan Buchanan, Dec 7 2021) circa 1930 at Murray Twp., Carrying Place, Northumberland Co., Ontario. He lived on 5 September 1942 at Carrying Place Lot 6, Murray Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; Land Registry Records (Grant 13400) show John E.
