Joseph Earle Jenner Belford was born on 25 May 1948 at Brighton Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; "On May 25th, 1948, my brother Joseph Earle Jenner was born ... " per "William James Belford", sent to me by Jimmy Belford of Trenton, March 28, 2008.1 He lived on 23 February 2014 at Brighton, Northumberland Co., Ontario; per Death Notice of George Edward Belford.2 He died on 28 December 2023 at Tamarindo, Costa Rica, at age 75; Obit: Earle Joseph "Joe" Belford, May 25, 1948 - Dec 28, 2023; Earle Joseph Jenner Belford (Joe) passed away peacefully on December 28, 2023 in Tamarindo, Costa Rica at the age of 75. Joe was born in Campbellford, Ontario on May 25, 1948 to James H. Belford and Dorothy Belford née Fisher. He was a talented hockey player from an early age and continued to play goal well after retirement. Joe had many jobs throughout his life including many years with The City Of Calgary driving various trucks. His work was never a passion of his; it allowed him and his family to live and for him to travel and play. Joe was always very active with sports, not just hockey he loved baseball and coached his one son's teams for many years. He also loved a good round of golf. Joe loved a good game of euchre & also was a very good cribbage player however trivia was really where he shined! After his retirement when he moved back to Ontario, he joined the local Dragon Boat team The Heat Strokes and loved being out on the water and enjoyed sailing whenever he could. When Joe was a younger man he travelled throughout Europe and worked many odd jobs to make his way. Joe even lived in England for several years. Travel was a real passion and he always looked to go somewhere warm and with a beach. Over his life, Joe lived in many different places before settling down in Alberta, where he raised his family and eventually retired. After retiring Joe and Jacqueline returned to Ontario to be closer to his siblings. After Ontario he fulfilled a lifelong dream of having his final resting place be in Costa Rica.
Joe was very proud of and loved his children and grandchildren deeply and was always a good friend to those around him. Joe was always down for a good time and a laugh, with his quick wit and sharp tongue you could always count on him to have the perfect comeback or a dry wit retort to everything. Joe is survived by his wife Stephanie, his former wife Jacqueline & their children; Arron Belford, Jason (Danielle) Belford, and Sarah (Brendan) Hunter. His grandchildren: Madison Belford, Sean Belford, Steven Hunter, Tennesson Hunter, and Evelyn Hunter, He is also survived by brothers James Belford, Richard (Hazel) Belford & Peter (Carole) Belford. Sister Barb Lytle and BIL's Robert Heron, Karl Carlson & SIL's Kathleen Belford & Jill Belford. Along with numerous nieces & nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, James & Dorthy Belford, and his siblings George Belford, Jean Heron, Katharine Belford, David Belford, Helen Carlton & Bruce Belford. Joe's children will be hosting an Irish-style wake in remembrance of his life on Friday, January 26th at 5:00 pm at the Bonavista Downs Community Association. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." - Irish Blessing on loss.
