He died on 7 July 1967 at Hastings, Northumberland Co., Ontario, at age 19; "Boat Swept Over Dam Youth Drowns At Hastings: Hastings - A Morganston youth drowned here Friday night when he was swept over the Hastings dam by the currnent of the flood-swollen Trent River. Edward Dingman, 19, was in a 14-foot outboard motor boat with three companions when the motor stalled. Village police said Sharon Bedford, 18, of the Brighton area, Linda Anderson, 19, of the Codrington Area, and John Gibson, 16, Hastings, jumped overboard as the boat drifted by the Long Pier and were pulled to safety by two unidentified Toronto anglers. Dingman apparently remained in the boat and was swept over the dam. The boat was recovered later at First Island, downstream from the area of the dam.
