Note: This record is out of order, below a Quit Claim for William Mason in 1910. However, this record in 1873 does show that William Mason, son of James Mason, was coming to Presqu'ile Point as of 1873.(Dan Buchanan, Jan 20 2022.)11 He lived circa 1880 at Brighton Twp., Presqu'ile Point, Northumberland Co., Ontario; "The Mason family were early arrivals on the Point, building their log cabin on the bayside while Mort Jobes built his on the lakeshore. There was a lane from the barn, across the road from the cabin, through the woods to Jobes'. The Mason's had a maple sugar bush on the Point. Also in the woods, ironwood trees grew along with many other varieties that are still on the Point today. The Mason family in later years built a brick house on Oliphant Street in Brighton. Muriel Hewitt Wishart, a great-great-granddaughter, was bon in this home." from page 92 of "Presqu'ile" by Bonnie Browne and Susan Brose, 1994.
" ... James Cornwall and his family owned and occupied the adjoining farm, now owned by the Boucher's. Next came William Mason, who with his family occupied the log house, still standing, known as the Donaghy place and now a summer home. Adjoining the Mason property was the farm owned by Mr. William H. Craig ... " from page 13 of "Presqu'ile" by Bonnie Browne and Susan Brose, 1994.
Note: The documents show that William Mason moved to Presqu'ile sometime late in the 1870s. He was in Cramahe Twp. for the 1871 Census and in Brighton Twp. for the 1881 Census. Their farm and cabin was on the bay shore west of the hotel and near the eventual Atkins farm, or the Calf Pasture of today.
