Richards died on 14 December 1951 at London, Middlesex Co., Ontario, at age 64; "Rev. Dr. R. T. Richards; A distinguished minister of the United Church of Canada, Rev. Dr. Raymond T. Richards, died suddenly at his home in London, Ontario, on Friday night, December 14, 1951, in his 65th year. He was the superintendent of Home Missions in Southern Ontario for the past two years and previous to that minister of Centennial Church in London. Dr. Richards was born in Codrington, attended model school in Cobourg and taught school for a year before entering Albert College in preparation for the ministry. During this probation he was stationed on the Belmont Mission outside Havelock and then at South Dummer (Westwood). He graduated from Victoria University in 1914 and reveived the degree of Doctor of Divinity in 1938. After ordination, he served the following charges in the Bay of Quinte Conference: Thornbury, Castleton, Cavan, Mark Street, Peterborough, Port Perry and Grace Church, Napanee, leaving the latter church for Centennial, London. Dr. Richards was a former president of the Bay of Quinte conference and served till his death on the Board of Evangelism and Social service of the United Church. His counsel was much sought in the courts of the church. He was also an outstanding member of the Lord's Day Alliance. Those who knew him best speak of his sterling character and forthright approach to truth and the charity of his witness to the faith. His going is a distinct loss to the church. Dr. Richards was married twice. His first wife, before marriage, Miss Maud Cardwell of Westwood, died a tragic death in a car accident while they were stationed in Napanee. From this marriage there survives one daughter, Miriam, now Mrs. Rodney Johnson of Halifax, Nova Scotia. His second wife was formerly Miss Neva Sine, B. A., of Napanee, who also survives him. The funeral service was held in the Centennial Church, London, on Tuesday, December 18." (Tweedsmuir Histories, Reel 1, I-226.)6
