Reeve Ken Ferguson, at the beginning of the meeting, said he had recently heard of the death of Reginald McCann, 74. The late Mr. McCann, said Ferguson, had occupied a prominent part in the public life of the township for some 35 years; he passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, Peterborough, on August 8 after a lengthy illness. Recapping his career, the reeve said that McCann had been deputy reeve of Brighton township from 1949 to 1951, and reeve from 1952 to 1954. He served as warden of the United Counties of Durham and Northumberland in 1952 and returned to pulbic service as a member of township council from 1969 to 1972. He served a further term as reeve from 1977 to 1979; in the latter year, he lost the election against Ferguson. In tribute to McCann his old friend and sometime antagonist, Ferguson requested a minute of silence. All present stood and joined in the tribute. McCann is survived by his wife Willa, daughter Ruth (Mrs. George McDonald) of Colborn, sons Howard of Codrington and Owen of Whitby. Also surviving are seven grandchildren.
