Ont., Ger., ME, farmer, single (1871 Census: Brighton Twp., Northumberland Co., dist. 55, sub-dist. Church; Nativity: Canada; Business: farmer; Year Settled: 1866; Post Office: Codrington; Township: Brighton; County: Northumberland; Date: 1878; Conc & Lot: VII, 31 - 100 acres
Note: Conc 7, Lot 31 is part of Mount Olivet (formerly called Orser Neighbourhood) on the south side of Goodfellow Road, east of Samson Stricker's land and on the west side of Gates Vanwicklin. Today this means you go east on Goodfellow road and just past the Clitherow farm on the north side, take the road south. It turns east and then south. It's right in here, maybe a bit east, where the Church's lived.5 He died on 4 May 1879 at Brighton Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario, at age 74; Date May? 1870? per Burial. Date May 4 1879 & location Ont. per family tree of MaureenMcCarthy12 on ancestry.ca, 2022 07 09.6,4 He was buried on 6 May 1879 at McPhail's Cemetery, Brighton Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; Memorial: (See Exhibit) In Memory Of; John O. Church; Died; May ?? 1879?; Aged 79? Years (McPhail's Cemetery, Brighton Twp., Apr 2, 2006)
Note: Stone is very old and worn and inscription is unclear - this is best quess for now. One may wonder why a resident of Mount Olivet would be buried way over at McPhail's Cemetery. Actually, seen from Mount Olivet, it may not seem so far away as if we view it from Codrington - it's just south a concession or so. Also, there may have been a religious affiliation at play. James and Mary Ames are also buried at McPhail's. They were CE and not Methodist and likely did not want to be buried in the Wesleyian Methodist cemetery at Mount Olivet. Their children were WM and used the local church.6
