As a physician, he was popular and successful ... municipally, he was at the top of the ladder until it was his own desire to retire, serving many years as Reeve of Cramahe, and Warden of Northumberland and Durham in 1870, just twenty years ago ... The funeral on Friday was very largely attended, and the services in the Methodist Church were extremely impressive. The remains were taken to Castleton for interment.
