William Buchanan was born in 1827 at Ireland; Date 1827 & location Ireland per 1871 Census. Date 1826 & location Ireland per 1861 Census. Date 1825 & location Ireland per 1851 Census. Date 1828 & location Ireland per Death Reg'n.1,2,3,4 He This William Buchanan has been placed as a brother of Robert and Thomas - due to circumstancial evidence. Denise Buchanan has told me " ... I am pretty convinced that William Buchanan is a younger brother of Robert." (from an email Jan 26 2001). It certainly could be true since dates and places match up. William and wife Mary are in Brighton Twp. Census beside Miriam Butler which would be right near the town of Brighton. In the 1861 and 1871 Census this family is in Murray Twp., conc 6, as far as I can tell.
Note: Another possible link is that Thomas Cowan is a witness at the marriage of James Buchanan (one of Robert's sons) in 1877. He may be connected to Mary Cowen? who is the wife of William Buchanan??? Lot's of possibilities - nothing certain. after 1827. He On Saturday, May 27, 2006, I (Dan Buchanan) met with Dorothy Sloan and Kathleen Miller at Dorothy's home at 145 Charles St., Belleville. Kathleen had contacted me earlier re the possibility that the William Buchanan I had added to my data as another brother or our Robert Buchanan, may in fact be the ancestor of her mother, Dorothy Sloan. I showed Dorothy all my data on the Thomas and Robert Buchanan families and we discussed the fact that she recalls visiting "Uncle Johnny" in Carrying Place when she was little. If this is the same "Uncle Johnny that my dad, Charles Buchanan, and his sister, Bernice (Buchanan) Brown, recall visiting at Carrying Place, we may have a connection. We also discussed the steps required to determine the specifics of this connection. after 1827. He William Buchanan is NOT in the 1848 Census for either Cramahe or Murray. It could be that he lived in Ameliasburg, at this time, maybe with Robert Buchanan and family. in 1848. He married Mary Cowan, daughter of ? Cowan and ? ?, before 1849 at Ontario; Marriage must be 1849 since first child, Catherine, burn Jun 1850??? per 1871 Census. Guessing re location Ontario but looks likely. William Buchanan William Buchanan is NOT in the 1850 Census for either Cramahe or Murray. in 1850. He According to the 1851-2 Census for Ameliasburg Twp., Robert Buchanan, who could be a brother of William Buchanan, lived near Conc. 2, Lot 103 - near Harvey Hunt and Charles Chase. There is a Mary Buchanan, single, age 25 (b. 1827) living with them. Robert and family attended the St. John's Anglican Church in Carrying Place because they were close by. This location is not Consecon, where several of William Buchanan's children are said to have been born, but could Conceson be used as a familiar name to refer to the area at a later date and from a greater distance. Of course, both William and Robert could have worked or even lived for a time in or near the village of Consecon since it was a busy commercial spot at that time. in 1852.
