This land is just a few miles south west of Swift Current, placing Sidney D. Jackson in the area in 1924. He The National Archives of Canada provides a database for Dominion Land Grants that can be used to search for the names of homesteaders in Saskatchewan. The resulting records show the location of the person which can then be located on Saskatchewan Wheat Pool maps.
The Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Survey maps of 1924 contain small sections of Saskatchewan with grids showing townships and ranges as well as railroads and towns. The locations can be determined base on the following: Meridian refers to the north-south lines that provide the boundaries of prairie provinces. The Alberta/Saskatchewan border is Meridian 4 and the Saskatchewan/ Manitoba boundary is Meridian 2. Meridian 3 runs down the middle of Saskatchewan. Sidney D. Jackson is referred to as W3 - West of Meridian 3, which means the western part of Saskatchewan. Townships are numbered from the U.S. border north and ranges are numbered from the eastern border or Saskatchewan to the western border. This is the grid on the map with allows us to see Sidney D. Jackson's land just a bit sourth west of Swift Current in southern Saskatchewan. This unit is divided into 36 sections, numbered from the south east corner, counting to the western edge of the range, then up a section. Counting continues back to the eastern border and so on until section 36 is reached at the extreme north east of the range. Sidney D. Jackson is shown to be in Section 1, the extreme south eastern section. Finally, a section is divided into quarters, designated by number and relative location. Sidney D. Jackson is in the 4 NE part of Section 1.
(based on info in the Saskatchewan GenWeb site under the heading Homewstead Records) in 1924 at Meridian W3, Twp. 14, Range 15, Section 1 Part 4 NE, Saskatchewan. "Stella Massey - b. 1880; d. June 10, 1899. Probably many of you have heard of Stella's tragic death. She was attending a May 24 picnic on the grounds of Castleton Church. A youth threw a lighted firecracker at her feet as she walked along with a boy friend. The celluloid starch used to stiffen the full petticoats of that period, caught the flames, and the terrified girl running, spreading them. She was taken to the adjoining manse where she died June 10. The service was at Morganston Church. A neighboring minister officiated as the local one was too upset to be able to conduct the service. Burial, Stone Cem., Norham. The obituary (held by sister Lily Darling, No.348) tells of Stella's patience and cheerfulness during her extreme suffering." from "Massey History" seen at Cobourg Pulbic Library.7 She was buried on 12 June 1899 at Stone's Cemetery, Norham, Northumberland Co., Ontario; Memorial: (See Exhibit) In Memory of; Stella C.
