On the night of April 21, 1852, a small lake north-west of Hilton broke through its gravel bank and cascaded down the narrow, steep valley to the north-east, destroying Lewis Shearer's saw mill and killing Mr. Shearer and a workman, Jacob Herrington. The story goes that Joseph Adams had been scheduled to work with Mr. Shearer that night but wanted to go to a card game instead. He got Jacob Herrington, a local farmer with a growing family, to take his place. Their mother was his second wife, Rachel "Levina" Hogman from Estevan Sask; He had another sister, Pearl Wilson Livingston Meekma. She died in ND in the mid 80s, not sure the date. She had one daughter, Nellie Viola Bell Livingston Jones. Nellie died in 1983 in Scobey MT. Her husband was Wilbur Jones. Wilbur died last summer; I know that Pearl and Garfield had a sister Olla but I don't know anything about her. There was another brother I believe, Gordon who died in MT; You may know all this but I was very happy to see some reference to James H and Elizabeth from Exeter ON.
