Catherine Rutter was born in 1810 at Adolphustown Twp., Lennox & Addington Co., Ontario; "Also, I finally figured out where Richard Cole's first wife came from. Catherine Rutter was indeed the daughter of John George Rutter, a Loyalist who came to Canada with my ancestor, Simon Isaac Cole. But he was in the U.S. rather briefly since he was actually from Germany." per email from Lorna Cole, Nov 21 2012. Catherine is 1st wife of Richard Cole per marriage register of son George Cole. Date 1810 & location Adolphustown per GEDCOM of Richard Lander, Nov 21 2012.
Note: This is an exceptional family. Catherine, born in 1810, is said to be the "second youngest of 12"; and George Rutter did not get married until he was 35. Both he and Elizabeth (Meyers), his wife, would be 60 years of age when Catherine was born. The Land Petition says she is a daughter of George Rutter. It looks like this is correct although I would like to see who the other kids were - I have 7 of the 12 only. (Dan Buchanan, Sep 2 2014.)1,2,3,4,5 As of before 1831,her married name was Cole.1 She married Richard Cole, son of Isaac Cole and Hannah Davenport, before 1831 at Prince Edward Co., Upper Canada; "Richard married Catherine Rutter (either Scottish or English, I am not sure) just before he left Prince Edward County and together they came to Northumberland County. She had three children and then died at age 32. Richard married Henrietta Wright in 1844 and proceeded to have many children together." per email from Lorna Cole, Nov 19 2012. Richard's first wife is named Catherine per marriage register of their son George Cole.1,2,4 Catherine Rutter lived on 7 January 1835 at Murray Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario; "The Petition of Catherine Cole wife of Richard Cole of the Township of Murray in the Newcastle District, Provinces of Upper Canada, humbly sheweth that your Petitioner is the daughter of George Rutter of the Township of Adolphustown in the Midland District, a U. E. Loyalist. That your Petitioner has attained the age of twenty-one and has never received any Land or order for Land from the Crown. Your Petitioner therefore prays that your Excellency will be pleased to grant until her two hundred acres of the waste Lands of the Crown, and permit …,, to be her Agent to locate the same, and to receive the Patent when completed. Catherine is the second youngest in the list of children. She married Richard Cole of Murray.
