The name of "Naphan" is also given as the residence of the informant. In the County Atlas Map (1878) we can see several lots owned by different members of the "Naphin" family in Concession 9 (far north side, angled) so we can expect there was a Post Office vby that name that would have been referenced. This is several lots east of Chisholm's Mills which is the very far north west corner of Tyendinaga.2,11 He lived circa 1915 at Elzevir Twp., Actinolite, Hastings Co., Ontario; Elzevir & Actinolite: Elzevir Twp. is north of Hungerford, east of Madoc in Hastings County. Following is text from the book"Historic Hastings" by Gerald E. Boyce, Chapter 56, page 319: "The township took its name from the Dutch Elzevir family, renowned in the printing business after 1580. The word "Elzevir" was said to mean elm or firewood. Although lands were first offered for sale in 1821, there were very few takers. As late as 1851, a survey showed that there was almost no settlers in the township. Then, thanks to the Hastings Colonization Road, attention focused more on this norther region. Among those looking northward was Billa Flint of Belleville. A leading merchant... Flint purchased a large tract of land and erected a saw mill in 1853. The village that grew up was called Troy, then later Bridgewater or Actinolite. .... Among early settlers in Elzevir were some of French-Canadian descent, who came seeking land grants or employment in lumber camps. These were the Duquette, Fobert, Genereaux and Courneyea families ... In the County Atlas Map (1878) we can see several lots owned by different members of the "Naphin" family in Concession 9 (far north side, angled) so we can expect there was a Post Office vby that name that would have been referenced. This is several lots east of Chisholm's Mills which is the very far north west corner of Tyendinaga.2,11 He lived circa 1915 at Elzevir Twp., Actinolite, Hastings Co., Ontario; Elzevir & Actinolite: Elzevir Twp. is north of Hungerford, east of Madoc in Hastings County. Following is text from the book"Historic Hastings" by Gerald E. Boyce, Chapter 56, page 319: "The township took its name from the Dutch Elzevir family, renowned in the printing business after 1580. The word "Elzevir" was said to mean elm or firewood. Although lands were first offered for sale in 1821, there were very few takers. As late as 1851, a survey showed that there was almost no settlers in the township. Then, thanks to the Hastings Colonization Road, attention focused more on this norther region. Among those looking northward was Billa Flint of Belleville. A leading merchant... Flint purchased a large tract of land and erected a saw mill in 1853. The village that grew up was called Troy, then later Bridgewater or Actinolite. .... Among early settlers in Elzevir were some of French-Canadian descent, who came seeking land grants or employment in lumber camps. These were the Duquette, Fobert, Genereaux and Courneyea families ...
