She was born 1810 in Adolphustown, Lennox & Addington Co., Ontario, Canada. Catherine was the daughter of John George Rutter who was born Apr 1750 in Eßlingen, Esslingen, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany and Elizabeth Meyers who was born 1764 in Hay Bay, Ontario, Canada. Her father, John first landed at Philadelphia about 1766. He fought on the British side in the American Revolution. He left from New York for Canada on 8 Sept 1783 in a fleet of 7 ships under the command of Captain VanAlstine and arrived in Quebec on 8 Oct. The settlers landed around Quinte Bay where each received a lot of 400 acres. John was given Crown land in what became Adolphustown. John was obviously known as George, as he is listed under that name in the new township records eg. March 1794 he is recorded in the records as George & having 7 members in his family.
