Note: We need to be careful to keep these people straight. The William J. Swetman shown below George B. Simpson in this list is a son of William Jerome Swetman who died in 1866 while acting as Lighthouse Keeper at the Point Pelee Lighthouse. The son took over when his father died but then, by the 1871 Census, we see him taking over at Presqu'ile - when is grandfather, William Swetman, died. However, he does not stay long, moving to Rochester in 1873, and George Benedict Simpson, who married a daughter of William Swetman, took over the job. in 1872 at Presequ'ile Point Lighthouse, Brighton Twp., Presqu'ile Point, Northumberland Co., Ontario.¹³ He was "He (William Swetman) was still performing this duty as late as 1867 at a salary of $325 per year.
