"Charles is referring to his mother, Tamar Richardson. Tamar was the daughter of William Richardson and Jane Schermerhorn and they were indeed from the Mohawk Valley. William's father, Asa, and Jane's father were both acting as spies for the British and were forced out about 1881 or 2 (I have the documentation). They were quite destitute and settled early on in the Quinte area. I checked way back and there is no connection between the two Richardson families." per email from Wilson Brown, Mar 15, 2007.

When he was eleven the family moved to Cobourg, Ont. and when he was fifteen moved to a farm near Shabbona, Dekalb County, Illinois. He resided for most of his adult life at Sycamore, Illinois. He md. (1) Jan 1, 1860, Frances Wait and after her death md. (2) Jan 10, 1881, Sue Rogers. He was survived by his widow and be three children of the first marriage. Grandfather Marsh was the father of twenty-two children, sixteen by his first wife and six by his second.
