  • Marriage*: before 1797; Onondaga Co., Nework, U.S.A.; Per Linda Herman email Dec 14, 2000; Principal=Lucy Cheney
  • Death*: 1810; Percy Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; Does not appear in Census or assessment records in Percy after 1809. Date 1809 & location Warkworth, Northumberland Co., Ont. per family tree of NaNi2003 on ancestry.ca, July 27 2020. Note: The town of Warkworth did not exist at this time, so it was still just Percy Township.1
  • Burial*: 1810; Percy Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; FindaGrave: Name: Thomas Curtis; BIRTH: 1752, Westerly, Washington County, Rhode Island, USA; DEATH: 1809 (aged 56–57), Warkworth, Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada; BURIAL: Warkworth Cemetery, Warkworth, Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada; MEMORIAL ID: 156273184l Note: Thomas was born circa 1752, probably at Westerly, Washington County, Rhode Island, where the family was living at the time. His birth year is based on his petitioning to purchase land in 1774, which he would have to have been 21 years of age to do, and this year fits with the chronology of the births of his siblings. DNA indicates he was probably the son of John Curtis and Margaret Davis (who was married first to John's brother James). He was married (firstly) circa 1784 to Vallonia (?), who died circa 1793, in Onondaga County, New York. He was married (secondly) circa 1795, to Lucy Cheney, the widow of Benjamin Cummings. Thomas had one child which is unaccounted for: Thankful Curtis: born circa 1792, in Onondaga County, New York. She is listed in the 1817 and 1818 Censuses for Ontario as living in Percy Township, the Newcastle District, which became Northumberland County. As yet nothing further has been located on her. (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/156273184)
Note: (Included below text) Gravesite Details With the exception of his wife Lucy no headstones are known to exist for Thomas and all of his children buried in the Warkworth Cemetery. Lucy's headstone was placed by the children of her first marriage.
Note: Source for FindaGrave: Created by: Allan Wenzel' Added: 22 Dec 2015; Find a Grave Memorial 156273184.
Note: As a local historian, it seems that this FindaGrave record is taking the concept of FindaGrave way out too far. There would be no graves known for people who died in 1809 - way to early for that. The largest cemetery in the area is the Warkworth Cemetery which began many decades later. Also, there is disagreement re parents of this Thomas Curtis. This is one example but more can be seen on Ancestry.ca. (Dan Buchanan)
Note: The date of death is an estimate related to the fact that the last assessment record for Thomas Curtis is for 1809. (Dan Buchanan)2,3
