King, superintendent of the county poor farm, was brought to our city. A gloom settled over those to whom he was best known as fast as the dread news spread. Mr. King had been a resident in this vicinity for nigh a dozen years, except during the periods when he had charge of the county poor farm, he was engaged in farming, stock-raising and nursery business, for all of which he showed a particular aptitude. The services were held in the Presbyterian church under the direction of the A.O.U.W. and Select Knights, to which orders the deceased belonged. Rev. J. N. Rankin, assisted by Rev. C. V. Penn, conducted impressive services, which were attentively listened to by the large congregation present. The choir sang "Thy Will Be Done" and another appropriate hymn. At the conclusion of the services, the members of the A.O.U.W. and Select Friends formed open ranks outside through which the remains, escort and mourners passed.     Death notice for Isabella's mother in Colborne includes: " ... Two of the sons, Peter and John, hold high and lucrative positions in the railway system of the Western States, the other we believe is well situated in business, and the daughter, herself a widow, lives in Kansas. ... " This explains why George and Isabella went to Kansas. The railway was being developed at Solomon City, Kansas at that time and her brothers may have been involved so they had a base to move to.

    Note: Manly Manson King was the youngest of the King children along with this twin sister Melissa Emily King. He married Mary Eliza Bush in 1875 but she died giving birth to their daughter Emma. We do not see Manly M. King in these parts thereafter. Much research found him married and living in Barrie in 1881; it may be he went to the US after that. A mortgage was taken out with Rueben Young who obtained the lot through Court of Chancery proceedings. Later it was owned by John Dinner and later Friday Ruttan who married Nellie Ross, daughter of Emma King and James H. Ross who lived there as well.7
