Wexford, Ireland and died 15 Sep1851 Campbellford, Ont., CAN. Ireland has had a stormy past and it appears that John Henry Waters after marrying Mary Elizabeth Stacey moved north to Northern Ireland because of the unrest developing in the Counties where they were born and raised. They married in 1796 and their first child was born in 1797/98. There was a Rebellion in 1798, in their part of Ireland, it was an insurrection were many were killed. He was wise to move his family out of harms way and he decided he would try to make a better life for them in a new country that was free of religious strife. So around 1818 he moved his family again, this time from Northern Ireland to Canada. Total of Protestant families preparing to emigrate from the counties of Carlow and Wexford in ensuing spring; to this date 710 families containing 4,027 individuals of whom upward of 1,100 are able-bodied. Ross 27 November 1817. At one time John Waters with other Protestants was imprisoned in a barn from which the Catholics made them march out in relays of 12 or 20's and they were spiked to death on Wexford Bridge (Southern and East Ireland) by viscious Catholics. John Waters was among the last few who were rescued by British Soldiers.
