A petition was made to Governor John Graves Simcoe in 1793 by a number of American citizens who wished to be granted a township for settlement purposes in Upper Canada. They were given land in Percy Township. Jesse Spalding died abt. 1800 in Percy Twp. Thomas Major Spalding was born in Massacheusetts on the 15th of August, 1780. He was the second son of Jesse Spalding. He married Ann Merriman (Merriam) who was born in 1783 in Connecticut. Thomas and Ann had eleven children.
