Wilson Ames Dies at Age 93 - Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon for one of Leamington's oldest residents, William Wilson Ames, of 142 Talbot Street East, who died Saturday at his home after a brief illness. He was 93. Born in Prince Edward County, Mr. Ames had resided in the Leamington district for the past 72 years. He had celectrated his 93rd birthday on July 18 of this year. Coming to the Sun Parlor as a young man, Mr. Ames was an expert cheesmaker and had received gold medal awards for his products. He operated a general store at Olinda at one time, later conducting a grocery and china business on Erie Street North for a number of years. He joined the growers' service of the H. J. Heinz Company of Canada Ltd. where he worked for 16 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Leamington United Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. J. W. (Belva) Puffer, with whom he made his home; two brothers, Francis Ames and Jess Ames, both of Kirkland Lake; a sister, Mrs. Wilmot Ritchie, of Cascade, B. C. His wife predeceased him in 1926. Rev. M. B.     "Obituaries; Ralph Ames, Sr.; Ill for only twelve days Mr. Ralph Ames, Sr., passed away at his home 42 Carlisle Ave., Bownamville, on March 2nd, in his 82nd year. Many of his wide circle of friends were unaware of his illness and were indeed saddened to learn of his passing. Born in Brighton Township, Northumberland County, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stepehen Ames, he was educated at Mt. Olivet and in his early years became an expeirenced carpenter and builder. Later he became a successful salesman with the Pedlar People, Oshawa, for a period of 15 years. For the past severn years he has lived in retirement but has taken an active interest in community affairs. Married on Feb. 6, 1889, to Miss Ida Valleau, they lived at Codrington, Ont., before coming to Bowmanville 22 years ago. Mrs. Ames passed away on April 7, 1946, and her loss was keenly felt by the community and her husband who survived her just short of a year. The late Mr. Ames was on of those kindly, solid citizens whose influence contributed much to this community. A member of Trintiy United Church and the Loyal Orange Lodge, he seldom sought office, perferring in his quiet way to render service. he was everywhere greatly respected. There remain to mourn the father on daughter, Mrs. Marie Widdis, Toronto, one son, Jesse S. Ames, and two grandchildren, Ralph Ames Jr., Bowmanville and Jack Widdis, Toronto. The funeral was held from the family residence March 4, with Rev. J. E. Griffith officiating in the services. Interment took place at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Brighton Township, with Rev. Delve, Woolner, officiating in the burial. Among the wealth of floral tributes were wreaths from the Pedlar People, Cook Motor Sales, Oshawa, and numerousorganizations and friends. The bearers were C. Papineau, N. H. Taylor, William Thetford, L. T. Cook, S. Jill Campbell, both of Bowmanville and a sister Marie La Londe of Scarborough. The funeral service was conducted by Reverend Arthur Amacher on Tuesday at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home.
