As well in 1825 he has 2 females over age 16. One would be his wife and I think the other is likely his widowed mother because his father David Sr. last appeared on the 1823 census. I think Stephen is likely the father of John Turney b: 1822 that marries Ruth Purdy.
  I believe both he and his elder brother David named sons John after their elder brother John who likely came to Canada briefly in 1793 and then returned to the States. (see notes of David Turney Sr regarding a John Turner and the misspelling of the Turney surname at the time) Stephen is likely the father of a James Turney that first appears on census in 1835 as his household is the one that has a decrease of 1 male that year. Stephen was on Lot 23 Concession 1 in census year 1826 and still there in census of 1848.
