Since the age of 17 years she had been a devoted Christian, and spent her life in faithful service to her Master. Those left to mourn her loss are one daughter, Mrs. H. A. Pettit, and two sons, John Shaw and Wm. Shaw of Gladwin, besides 15 grandchildren. Services were held March 19 in Detroit, interment at Woodmere cemetery. They were living in New York in the 1870 census. They had at least 6 children together name Melissa, Julia, Catherine, Mary, Bertha, and Henrietta. Melissa may have died young. I can not find her past the 1870 census.
  John may have had another daughter named Fanny. It shows Fanny at the bottom of the family list in the 1870 census in New York.
