- Note*: circa 1825; Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., Upper Canada; Abigail Dingman is being placed as a daughter of Garret Dingman and Annie Sabins based on circumstancial information. The Death Reg'n. of their son Ashford N. Palmateer says his mother is Abigail Dingman and the 2nd Marriage Reg'n. of their son Melvin A. Palmateer says his mother was Abigail Dingman. Garret Dingman and Annie Sabins appear to be the best possible parents for Abigial based on her birth date in 1824 - just after they were married and proximity - this Dingman family was at Conc 9 Cramahe and the Palmateers were at Conc 9 Brighton Twp., very near each other. If anyone knows better, please contact me.
Note: The first reference I saw re Chester Palmateer and Abigail Dingman was in the Rootsweeb.com tree of Bill Smith, Aug 12, 2007. I was looking up Claude Palmateer who'se name I saw in the Codrington Land Registry Records while preparing material for a history of Codrington. The Master connection was also interesting. - Married Name: before 1844; Palmateer

Two other children, George and Richard, are shown as well??2 - Note*: circa 1865; U.S.A.; "Melissa & Thomas moved from Ontario to Michigan when they did because of Melissa's younger brother's involvement in the Riel Rebellion. It's not known which of her four younger brothers it was but there were only three who were of age. Lewis Henry Fusee would have been 28, Charles Bartley 25 and James Anthony 17. The youngest Frank would have been just 6 at the time. It might even have been Thomas himself who was involved in the rebellion but more likely Melissa's brothers because her family was Métis. Because of this involvement at least one family member was wanted by the authorities and this was the reason Thomas & Melissa moved their family to the frontier of western Michigan. Many Métis involved in the rebellion headed for the US for the same reason including Louis Riel." (Posted 19 Aug 2011 by nanlouise1946
