Terrill Opened Calgary's First Florist Shop in 1903; For almost thirty years a resident and prominent business man of this city, Alfred Marmaduke Terrill died at his residence in the Palliser hotel Saturday morning, following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his widow and a brother, John E. Terrill, of Seattle, Washington. Mr. Terrill came to Calgary from Picton, Ontario, in 1903, and shortly afterward commenced business as a florist, opening the first business of its kind in the city. He carried it on until a few years ago, although the firm still bears his name. He was interest in public affairs and had been a city alderman and chairman of the parks board. He was one of the first justices of the peace to be appointed in the newly formed province and was a member of the board of managers of the first Alberta theological college. He was a life member of the board of trade. In Freemasonry he held several distinguished offices, including Worhshipful Master of Bow River lodge, No. 1 A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of the Shrine, Knight Templars and Scottish Rite. He was an Oddfellow and a Forester. When Knox church, now Know United church, was built, he was one of the guarantors, and until failing health forced him to resign his duties was clerk of the session.
