Obituary -
One of our oldest and most respected residents has gone to "that bourne from whence no traveler returns". Mrs. C. E. Barrett was a native of England, came to Canada with her husband, the late William Barrett, fifty four years ago and has been a resident of Port Hope for over half a century. She was a lady held in the highest esteem among all her friends and acquaintances. For over a year past, Mrs. Barrett has been in failing health. During most of the past winter she has been with her daughter in the city of Montreal, and only returned to Port Hope a few days ago. Her death was somewhat unexpected, as she only took to her bed four or five days ago. She leaves three children, H. Barrett, Port Hope; F.W. Barrett, of Toronto; and Mrs. Crawford, of Montreal, to mourn her loss. Mrs. Barrett was for more than fifty years a member of the Methodist Church and a prominent member of the Ladies Aid Society of that church. The funeral takes place today, Good Friday, at 2:30.
