On Wednesday the 21st inst., 1898, at "The Maples," the home of councillor Wm. Runnels, a very solemn yet pleasant marriage was celebrated, when Jennie P., his eldest daughter was united in the holy bonds of wedlock to Mr. P. Harry N. Lawson, of Brighton.
At 3 o'clock the bride entered the room leaning on her father's arm. The wedding march was played by Miss Florence Waller, of Peterborough a cousin to the bride. Rev. R. B. Denike performed the marriage ceremony. The bride was becomingly attired in white silk trimmed with chiffon and pearl, wearing a veil caught with bridal roses, and carrying in her hand a shower bouquet of white roses and maiden hair fern. She was supported by her sister Ida, who wore a costume of figured organdie, trimmed with lace and baby ribbon, and carried a bunch of pink roses. The two little maids of honor, HaZelle and Della, sisters of the groom, were dressed in white, each carrying a bouquet of flowers. And the groom was supported by his cousin, Mr. Ross Lawson of Brighton. The presents to the bride from her numerous friends were both useful and beautiful, showing the esteem in which she was held. After the ceremony was performed, all retired to the dining room, where the tables, gorgeously decorated, awaited them. After partaking of the good things placed before them, they spent a few hours in merriment until the time arrived for them to start for the station. Arriving there, they were met by a host of friends, who showered them with rice and flowers and extended congratulations until the arrival of the train, when they seated themselves comfortably in the car, and in a few minutes were on their way to Peterboro' and other points west.
