Note: As an experiment, I am placing Miles Cowan as a son of Patrick Cowan (1791-1886) and a first wife. I have seen no direct evidence of this but it would explain a lot of things we know. Miles settled at the same place and time as Patrick and the name Patrick follows into families of Miles and his brothers. Patrick's second wife was Ellen Casey who appears to have connections to a John Casey in Murray Twp. - informant for her death reg'n. in 1882. She is much younger than Patrick.
