     Nancy Prentice was born circa 1828; per marriage reg'n. of daughter Mary Ann (Clute) Swan.¹ She married Benjamin Clute, son of John Clute and Mary Ann "Maria" Robertson, circa 1850 at Seymour Twp., Northumberland Co., Canada West; Benjamin Clute and Nancy Prentice are parents of Mary Ann Clute but the mother of the other kids of Benjamin is Nancy Robertson. Marriage and Death Registrations are pretty clear about this. If Nancy Prentice was Ben Clute's first wife (assuming there was only one Ben Clute) then they must have been married only briefly - with one child, Mary Ann, the result. Ben Clute married Nancy Robertson in 1858 and then the rest of the kids are theirs. Ben appears in the 1851 Census with his parents and siblings, age 20, with no mention of a Nancy or Mary Ann Clute. William Prentice and family also are in the same page of the Census with no Nancy or Mary Ann Clute. Hmmmmm..... there is something I don't know yet. ?????² As of circa 1850,her married name was Clute.¹ Nancy Prentice died before 1857 at Ontario; Benjamin Clute 2nd marr. 1858.³
