His people were farmers and two of his brothers served in the British Army. James McQuoid married in Scotland, and his son William was born there also. It was probably after the birth of his eldest child that our pioneer migrated from Scotland to Ireland. It is uncertain how long he remained in Ireland, but it is known that they did not arrive at Quebec until about 1820. He naturally pushed on to the English-speaking Province of Upper Canada, bringing his family with him to Kingston.
