At the age of sixteen, shortly after the war began, Henry Finkle made his way to Quebec and joined the British forces. Cpl. Abbott came to Upper Canada from Massachusetts with his brothers Levi and William before the War of 1812. Levi subsequently returned to the United States, William settled near Ottawa, and George bought lot 7, concession A, Murray Township, near Trenton. He and his wife, Sarah Hennessey, had five children. When George died in 1848 he left his land to his son, Levi Lewis Abbott.
