He sailed for England on Dec. 10, 1939 on the Empress of Britain. He served in England, France, Sicily, Italy and Holland, for a period of five and a half years in all. He was wounded in Italy on Dec. 11th, 1943, in the "Battle of Ortona". He returned to Canada May 10th, 1945, on the "Ille de France" via New York, arriving in Shiloh on May 15th, 1945. He was discharged from the army on June 30th, 1945. His wife, the former Beryl Tucker, with their two children Stephanie and Michael, sailed from Liverpool, Eng. on the S.S. Scythia on Feb. 18th, 1946.
