Date April 1754 per age 29 years 7 months give on List of Loyalists in Corps of Rangers, Niagara, 1783.1 He Birth Place: New York or Pennsylvania - per Genealogical Record - (per "John Dingman of Westminster & Family", book of Ruth & Emerson Smart, Apr 21, 2004) circa 1757.2 He The Battle of Oriskany took place in the Mohawk Valley in 1777. The King's Royal Regiment of New York, including John Dingman (later of Westminster Twp., Middlesex Co., Ontario). The situation for Loyalists was very bad at this time and this could have been around when the family moved to Unadilla to avoid the troubles. Word has it they could not avoid it there, either. in 1777 at Mohawk Valley, New York, U.S.A.. The Petition of John Dingman of the township of Westminster on the District of London ... William Dingman built a lof house on the north half of that quarter and his father built an addition to the cabin on the south half at the cross roads at the southwest corner. They made the first improvements on that quarter section. The old folks kept hotel in their log cabins. In 1853 the Rock Island railroad was finished to Sheffield in Bureau county, then they ran a line of coaches from Sheffield to Rock Island. Then they made the Dingman hotel a station and office where they changed horses. As soon as the railroad was finished to Rock Island, the coah line was abandoned. The Dingman's came from Canada.
