  • Burial*: 26 December 1861; Necropolis Burying Ground, Toronto, York Co., Ontario; "One day when the Ward children were to the main land to school across the bay, the boat capsized, drowning all but one. A girl was rescued by Grandfather. Later on, in about a month, Grandfather found the body of one of the children. So when Grandfather died, he was buried among the Ward children in the Necropolis burying ground." per "Story of William Gerow", sent to me via email by Debbie Gerow, Dec 21 2008.

The Toronto Necropolis Chapel was built in 1872 and is one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in Toronto. The Crematorium was built in 1933. A Plaque says "The first interment in the Necropolis took place in May 22, 1850, within these grounds are buried many of those originally interred in Potter's field including citizens of every walk of likfe and some who occupied positions of eminence in the city. ... • Residence: circa 1851; Hanlon's Point, Toronto Island, Toronto, York Co., Ontario; "First I was emailed along time ago (2004 I think) from a descendant of Della Gerow daughter of William and Jane, William is son to William and Bridget, anyway it had some info that had been given to the uncle of this descendant, one part of it caught my interest and that was that William had a first wife before Bridget but her name was not known and there was a list of two children for this first marriage a James and Mary. Listed children for William and Bridget were William John. George, Ellen, Charlotte, Dan (Daniel). The paper had also stated that William and Bridget lived on Hanlons point which is part of Toronto island. William husband of Bridget apparently died in 1861 and was buried in the Necropolis burying grounds with some ward children but i havent found proof of that yet. The other intersting part was that William john son of William and Bridget was a civil war soldier. I have jpg copies of the letter and the statement of military service if you would like me to send them to you." per email from Debbie Gerow, Dec 15 2008.
Note: The mother of George is Mary in my data. On further review, I see no evidence to support that name directly. It may have come from an early GEDCOM which I did not document. In view of this, Debbie Gerow's research may show a legitimate family structure, with Bridgit as the mother's name. More early documents are required to support this - especially the 1851 and 1861 Census.2

Email: "Hello Dan...Just finished reading your book on Dr. King (love those local histories) and thought I'd bring your attention to a little gem of information that you might not already know. (Then again, you may already know this, so just consider this a fan letter). In the early 1980s, I was hired by the County of Prince Edward to photograph and document its older buildings. I lived in a farmhouse between Northport and Solmesville. The study was the County's bi-centennial project and became the basis of a book called the Settler's Dream. It's still available (I think) and if not, it's in most every local library. As I read your Dr. King book, the name Jenkins and its connection to Northport stuck with me. Just now, I looked it up in the Settler's Dream and found, sure enough, a Jenkins house in the village of Northport. I always admired it because it is exceptionally old (c.1830). Judging by the name of the builder (William Jenkins), his profession as a shoemaker, this has to be the home of W H King's grandfather, don't you think?? Am I right? I haven't been to Northport for years, but last I looked, the house was still standing. I hope this adds something new to your research. Below is a pdf excerpt copied out of The Settler's Dream. Sincerely, Tom Cruickhsank (who like, you, spends way too much time on genealogy and local history) Hamilton Township, ON; 905-342-9093" per email from Tom Cruickshank, co-author of Settler's Dream.4
