Dave married his high school sweetheart, Marie on March 26, 1959 and they were together for almost 70 years until her death last December 2023. They had two daughters Shari Burke (Bob) and Dana Booth (Scott). They had four grandchildren; Samantha (Steven), Justin (Helene), Andrew (predeceased), and James (Samantha); and three great-grandsons, Desmond, Nathan and Ryan. Education was very important to Dave. While teaching and raising a family, he completed his B.A. (Queen's University), M.Ed. (University of Ottawa), and an Ed. D. (University of Toronto), and he devoted the rest of his career teaching others as a Teacher, Principal, Superintendent and the Director of Education of Victoria County. After retirement, he and Marie built their “forever home” at Presqu'ile in Brighton. Dave's history with Presqu'ile started in the 1940s when he spent summers with his family at Woodmere Lodge. His love of Presqu'ile continued. In 1966, he and Marie purchased a cottage. For the next 25 – 30 years he and his family spent many happy hours, biking, hiking, swimming, sailing, water skiing, motor boating and enjoying happy times with friends. They built their house on the cottage lot in 1995, and transitioned from cottagers to residents. Dave became actively involved with Rotary, Community Care, Kiwanis and the projects supported by these organizations. He was an active member of the Brighton District Curling Club and the Barcovan Golf Club for many years. Even with his busy life, he and Marie found time to travel. Some of their memorable trips were to Austria, Tuscany, the Mediterranean, Alaska, and Las Vegas. All along his journey, Dave met wonderful people he was lucky to call his friends. He will be missed dearly by these friends, but especially, by his family. His family is hosting a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Rushnell Funeral Homes – Brighton Chapel, 130 Main Street from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in memory of David may be made to The Alzheimer Society of Canada, Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation or Brian Todd Memorial Community Fund."
