P. Gould, Cramahe (Ontario Marriage Registration, #008042-1886, ancestry.com) per GEDCOM of Don & Jeanne Ross, Feb 27 2010.1,10 George Hopstill Brown One account of the life of Roy Brown, the WWI Flyer who was credited with shooting down the Red Baron in 1918, says that George and Jenny Brown of Brighton were his parents. While trying to confirm that, I found that George and Jenny Brown had no children, either before they lived in Brighton, or after 1911 when they moved here.
In fact, records show that Arthur Roy Brown (Dec 23 1893-Mar 9 1944) was born in Carleton Place, Ontario, the son of James Morton Brown and Mary Elizabeth Flett. He married Edythe Lois Monypenny in Toronto on Feb 19 1920 and would live on a farm in Stouffville, where he died in 1944.
The account that links Roy Brown to Brighton was written by Peter McConnell and printed in Florence Chatten's book "Brighton Township" in 2009, page 207.
(See the tree of John Hanna and others on ancestry.ca - Dan Buchanan, August 9, 2020)
Note: Also, the original claim that Brown shot down the Red Baron has been evolved by investigation and more information to say that it was more likely that machine gun fire from an Australian gunner on the ground ended the life of the Red Baron. Borwn and his squadron had been engaged with the Red Baron and his squadron, and, as the Red Baron chased a young rookie, friend of Brown's, Brown gave chase and the fight moved over into air above the Allied trenches which allowed for lots of fire from the ground. The verdict is still not certain, but this is the more probable scenario. Of course, in those days, the RAF was going to take credit for the kill, and not some lowly gunner on the ground. See a more elaborate explanation of this at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Brown_(RAF_officer) on 23 December 1893 at Carleton Place, Ontario.11,12 He appeared on the census of 1911 at 262 North St., Colborne, Northumberland Co., Ontario; Age 59 at 1911 Census: Brown, George, 59?, b.
