Note: The name is given here as "Thomas Paxton Merrill" but that does not seem right. The date suggests a son of Thomas Paxton and Nancy Merrill, who would likley be named Thomas Merrill Paxton. This is an extract from the journal of William Merrill, so maybe he wrote it this way, with a Merrill-focussed approach. Can anyone explain this?¹
