The trip from New York included trains to Rochester, and a steamer across Lake Ontario to Gosport and then a horse and buggy or boat ride to Presqu'ile. According to a newspaper account from 1901, Mrs Atkins returned to Rochester on the steamer "Alexandra", with her family and maid, Miss Delaney. Mr. Atkins returned to Presqu'ile every year for the rest of his
life. Note: Susan Brose told me that the name of the dentist was Dr. Eddie Sanford. That would be Edward Alexander Sanford (1870-1916), son of John Edward Sanford, who was born in Brighton but moved to Rochester and was a dentist there, along with one of his brothers.
