He was adopted by Henry E. & Mayme Smart.1 He was adopted circa 1930 at Ontario; Emerson Dingman was adopted by Henry E. & Mayme Smart.

Smart (Pinehill Union Cemetey, Mattawa, Papineau Twp., Nipissing Dist.) - per Gordon E. Dingman & Valma McArthur, Ruth & Emerson Smart's Books, Feb 10, 2004.1 Emerson Wallace Frank Dingman (Smart) lived on 1 January 2004 at Mosa Twp., Newbury, Middlesex Co., Ontario; On New Years Day I (Dan Buchanan) drove to Newbury (just north of Wardsville) and had a visit and lunch with Emerson and Ruth Smart. Then I took their "Books" in my car and took them home where my job is to make sure my data matches what is in the "Books".1 He Excavation of the Dingman/Lumley Cemetery was carried out by Emerson and Ruth Smart (Dingman), Wendy... and Dan Buchanan. The Vaughan's allowed access to the fence place back of the bean field by their house. Stones for about a dozen people were uncovered and set out for preservation and recording; several smaller stones, some broken pieces of larger stones and some small markers, were also found. Ian Riley of the Marilyn Adams Research Centre in Ameliasburgh attended for a time, recorded the specifics and discussed the plan to care for the stones and the cemetery in the future. The crew believes that this was, in fact, the site of the original cemetery, based on the spaced out but close arrangement of the main stones but more importantly because of two marker stones, containing only initials, which were found in their original planted positions, at right angles and straight up. We had to dig down almost 3 feet to take these marker stones out. We believe the initials on these two stones are H. M., for Henry Martin, and G. H. D., for George Henry Dingman, both shown on larger grave stones that were recovered. on 22 May 2004 at Dingman/Lumbley Cemetery, North Marysburgh Twp., Prince Edward Co., Ontario. He died on 27 September 2017 at Newbury, Ontario, at age 91; "SMART, Emerson - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Emerson Smart at his home in Newbury Ontario, on Tuesday September 27th in his 91st year.
