G. Lelliott and his wife the former Doris Shelfer. He attended elementary schools in Simcoe, Woodstock and Niagara Falls and High School in N. Falls & Campbellford & joined the Navy in Feb 1952 for a 5 year term. During this time the ship on which he was training attended the Corontation of Queen Elizabeth II and travelled also around the world after the Korean War. In 1954 his marriage to Ada Goodfellow took place. While in Halifax was his home station, he started a correspondence course on Radio Electronics and later in 1957 attended Radio College of Canada. Businesses were "Lelliott Arials" in 1960, "Community Antenna Systems" in Cobourg 1962, "Aurora Cable TV" with his father in 1964 and in 1969 he founded "Northumberland Cable TV". This business was sold in 1974. His hobbies were sports - among these skiing, hockey, scuba diving, motorcycling for which he won the Junion National Championship for Canada in 1969 and his love of sailing which in the final purchase of his 3rd sailboat, a 41 ft. catamaran - supposedly unsinkable - on Jan 21st 1975. Always impulsive by nature, he and 2 male friends left Annapolis, Maryland, on Jan 22nd. The tragic accident occurred on Jan 28th, as there was no further contact after this date. The the overturned boat was sighted on Jan 31st, and there were no survivors. On Aug 5th 1975 a piece of the boat was found bearing the name which allowed them the knowledge that they had indeed been lost. Bill's church membership was last registered in the Anglican Church in Campbellford, but he regularly attended Bethesda South United Church on the Dale Road, near his home with his wife and family and held several offices amoung these being Sunday School Superintendent in 1974 and sang in the choir. Besides his wife, there are 4 daughters who survive - Kelli, Cynthia, Lynn and Lisa. Plans had been made for a year of sailing with the family in this 41 ft. catamaran from the summer of 1975 to '76 through the Great Lakes, down the Mississippi R. to Florida and the Bahamas area and up the east coast of the Atlantic. Bill Lelliot was lost at sea - on his yacht.
