  • Death*: 12 September 2013; North Bay, Ontario; Obit: "Muriel Elizabeth "Betty" Gartner; Gartner, Muriel Elizabeth; Born October 26, 1932 in Chapleau, Ontario and known as Betty to family and friends, she was the first daughter of Bertram William Zufelt and Elsie Murray Hunt. Betty graduated from North Bay Normal School in 1952 and taught in Webbwood and Nipissing Junction. Joining the Bell Telephone Company in 1955, Betty worked on North Bay’s cut over to dial telephone service in 1957. It was there she met Charles Sidney Gartner and they were married at Howard Eaton Memorial Church in Widdifield Township on July 15, 1959. Residing on Lakeside Drive originally Pumphouse Road for 45 years, the Gartners raised 3 sons, Allan, Christopher (Leah Salomaa) and Bryce (Pamela Durocher). Grandma Betty was delighted with her beautiful granddaughters Olivia, Paige, Julia and Bailey. Passionately interested in Family History and Genealogy, Muriel (Betty) Gartner was one of the founding members of Nipissing District Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, and a faithful volunteer for 25 years. She will be fondly remembered by sisters Anne, Joan and Leslie. Family will receive friends at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place at Forest Lawn Crematorium. • Death*: 17 August 2017; North Bay, Ontario; "Obituary of Rebecca Anne McGoldrick; McGoldrick, Rebecca Anne; It is with much sadness that the family of Rebecca (Anne) McGoldrick announces her passing on August 17 following a brief illness. Originally from Chapleau Ontario, Anne was predeceased by her parents, BW Zufelt and Elsie Hunt, as well as her husband Michael (MJ) McGoldrick and sisters Elizabeth (Betty) Gartner (Sid) and Joan Cotter (Jim). She is survived by sister Leslie (Richard Morin ) and by her loving children, Jeff (Nancy Laundriault), Hugh (Joyce Giles), Laurie and Toby (Mark Hamel). Also mourning are her 7 grandchildren: Megan, Aidan, Michael, Jarret, Rebecca, Cole and Cody. Anne will be missed by the many friends she made through her community activities, including singing with the Baytones and doing research with the North Bay Genealogical Society. Our mother was always active in the community, being elected to for terms on the Chapleau School Board. But it will be her genealogical work that she will be remembered for the most. Beginning in 1976, Anne and her sister Betty began what would be a 40 year plan to identify all of their ancestors. And, this was done before genealogy was cool. Her work on the family brought her to England and the Eastern US on many occasions. In doing so, her research has left our family with an excellent understanding of our origins. And she did not stop there. Anne was responsible for mapping out countless Chapleau families, much to the delight of many. She will surely be missed. We invite everyone to join with us on Saturday August 19th at Martyn Funeral Home (464 Wyld St, North Bay) for visitation at 2:30 and the funeral at 3:30 followed by a reception. If desired, donations to the North Bay Library will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy." (https://martynfh.com/tribute/details/1550/Rebecca-McGoldrick/obituary.html)
